Happy Birthday My Boy!

My Boy turned 20 this month. 20! I thought he was turning 19 and had to look up his registration papers to be sure.

Twenty sounds so old! My Boy came into my life when he was 14. He was in his prime. He doesn't look 20 to me, and hopefully that will improve this spring and summer when he gets ridden more and gets back into shape!

I know I have many happy years left to enjoy this goofy spotted pill, but I think according to the "Here's How" column in this month's Practical Horseman magazine, he is considered "old" or "aged." He does need to have his teeth done this year. He's back on his joint supplement. I think the best thing for him will be to come out of his semi-retirement and get used again!

Speaking of getting MB going again, I scheduled an appointment with a great local saddle fitter! So the first of April, I will have a 2 hour fitting for My Boy to get a dressage saddle! I am so excited.

My lesson was cancelled tomorrow but that worked out okay because I had to make a last minute car appointment. I might have to cut back to just two lessons a month for a while as my part time job fell through and I need to find something else to fund this new passion!

Wow - 20! Happy birthday spotted pill! ;-) I'm sure he has lots of good years left with you. My old guy Rusty was around 19-20 and he did best when I was riding him a fair bit. Hope the saddle fitting goes well!

Wow! That's very similar to Roz and I. I bought him at 11, resold him, and then bought him back at 14. He's turning 22 next week! I'm sure your boy has plenty of years left.

Between the joint supplement, teeth care, a properly fitted saddle and regular work to keep him in shape, I'll bet he will be able to keep chugging along for many good years to come.

Happy birthday to your boy!

I have to say, my personal opinion is that as long as you can get them out there and use them at least lightly the better off they are. I really think that's part of the reason my OTTB mare made it to 30 (sadly she would have been able to make a few more years if a hack vet hadn't wrecked her teeth :( )

Can't believe he's 20! He and King need to have an old man party! Yes, it got really warm and nice here for a couple of days. Hope to see you soon once your Mom gets moved in!
I have blogged like 6 times in the last year! Hoping to get back into it. BTW~I don't know if you realize it but you have that verification thing you have to type in to prove you aren't a robot on your blog, I don't know if you know.

Yep Michelle that is my goal! I feel guilty that I've let him live the life of leisure that he has for the last year and a half!

Yes Tara, I reinstated the robot thing because I was getting alot of spam comments on older posts. Its an extra step but I don't mind doing it when I comment on other people's blogs, too. :)
